More mammoth miles this week as many of the Harriers took on an Autumn edition of the Backyard Ultra at Hardwick Hall. 4.16 miles on the hour, every hour with a last man standing format as runners seek to run as many laps before the inevitable DNF for all but one. Hardwick hall presented a new venue even for those experienced with the format and a new challenges as some of the trails of Sherwood were replaced with the mixed road and grassy fields of Hardwick.
Charlotte Randall and Paul Parry made a BYU debut as they ran 14 and 15 laps respectively for to be well clear of 50 miles whilst Nick Moore also debuted with 18 laps for 75 miles in the early hours of the morning. With three Harriers still out there it would be well in to the next day as both Adrian Hopkinson bettered their previous best running 25 laps for 104 miles but the last man standing for the Harriers saw Matt Daly smash through his previous best and heading in to the incoming storm, going on to run 30 laps for 125 miles and finish in the top-10 and set a new club record for BYU Laps
Whilst the BYU group got stated three of our juniors were in action representing Nottinghamshire at the Pringles Stadium, Nuneaton in the Inter-county U13 and U15 T&F
Issac Beresford had a great day finishing 3rd in 75m hurdles, knocking 2 seconds off pb 13.8s before 2nd in LJ, narrowly missing 1st in 4.56m before matching his 100m PB in 13.7s.
Summer Johnson PB’d in 12.6s before a challenging day of HJ. PBs not the only celebration for Summer as was also Awarded her medal for athlete of the match for the final mini league.
Emilia Jonczyk rounded up the Harriers trio representing Notts as she competed in the discus (result TBC)
Back to on to running (and more regular distances!) but still a super challenging route, the Big dipper half took place in Dronfield with nearly 2000 ft of climbing across two big hills, it’s a course to race rather than run to time. Kerry Saville was first back in 1:42:29, followed by Lucy Binch running a strong time and using the race as part of marathon training in 1:53:25. Sam Robinson followed shortly with a great time of 1:55:58 with Stu McCluskie finishing up the team of 4 in 2:22:03
Dropping down another distance and at the Mansfield 10k, Matan Duveen ran took on the hilly course, finishing in 53:48 to cap off a good summer of hard work and training with a SB.
