A double this week as we catch up on two KMR’s the Summer League Finale and the Worksop Harriers Half Marathon Championship at Newark Half.
Wednesday 6th August saw another edition of the KMR with a two lap trail race over in Braithwell for the Braithwell Dog Leg. Slight route change again this year but then we’re not sure we’ve ever ran the same route twice. More Harrier podiums with a 2nd for Matthew Daly and a 3rd for Henry Brady whilst 1st Lady was once again Hannah Miller (and 6th overall). Excellent runs too from Aaron Buckland, Matan Duveen, LouiseMorris Sarah-Jayne Baines, Sharon James and Kerry Saville
Also on the same night and far down Sourh in Cornwall was the Vale of Lanherne trail race. Bussed out to the coast and run the beautiful trails back to St Columb. The Bulmer ladies did us proud as young Holly won first Junior and a superb second Lady overall, even after taking a couple of tough tumbles. Sally came second in age group and 6th lady overall.
On to the weekend and Nick Mould took part in Pierrepont Plod. A very hot morning but Nick managed the conditions well ticked off 30km on the looped course and bagged a pretty cool medal at the end.
In to week two and Wednesday 14th saw the finale of the Notts AAA Summer League Series and a second trip to The NWSC, Holme Pierrepont for the classic 5 mile course, all on road and with two of our runners right in the medal contention there was plenty to play for. On the night James Lonsdale ran superbly to take 4th followed by Luke Davis (23rd), Henry Brady(37th), Matt Daly (42nd), Barnaby Gray(51st) to make up the scoring 5 which saw the Worksop Men finish 5th on the night and 6th overall in the series. Rounding out the Harriers men were Paul Parry and Matan Duveen
On to the ladies and a fantastic series finished for Sally Ormrod as she finished 12th joined closely by Hannah Miller (14th) and Lucy Binch (30th) and Sam Robinson (61st) to place the ladies 4th both on the night and just off the podium for the series. Cathy Mhembere and Carol Lonsdale rounded out the ladies team.
Awards don’t come from singular race success however but consistency across the series and two of our Worksop Athletes performed brilliantly. Sally Ormrod took not only 8th overall for the series but 2nd in V35-44 for Silver whilst Barnaby Gray put in a fantastic final performance to take 3rd V55-64 for Bronze. Two excellent seasons for two consistent and well performing athletes!
Whilst the Seniors Summer Leagued, George North travelled to Worcester looking to clear 1.25m. The bar moving straight from 1.22 to 1.27 meant narrowly missing a PB but successful night all the same as George PB'd for his 150m 22.95.
Just a day later and we were back at the Toffee Race and another edition of the KMR. Four miles up and out of Elsecar Village before a long fast descent back to the village. More Green and Black prizes at a muggy one tonight at Stan’s Toffee Run - KMR
Hannah miller once again took 1st female whilst there was a roll reversal as Henry Brady took 3rd with Matt Daly 5th. Kerry Saville followed the Chris Lawrence and Sharon James to bring down the curtain to our super Harriers lineup.
Also on Thursday night and over at the Costsello Stadium, Hull, Isaac Beresford dipped under a 2.30 target with a superb run stopping the clock in 2:29.0
On to Sunday and Newark Half this year hosted our Club Half Marathon GP and Club Champs with a great turn out for the Green and Black. The club champs awards trophies to the first Male and Female Worksop Harrier each year and this year the Womens one was retained for the third year running whilst the Men’s trophy will find a new home. First Harrier home and taking the Men’s trophy saw a well executed race and narrowly missing a PB as Matt Daly ran 1:19:55 and a close following 2nd meant there was no time to slow down as Henry Brady finished in in 1:20:51. Next in with a fantastic run from one of our super-vets taking 1st V50 Paul Parry ran 1:22:24. Rounding out the men’s team we had Adrian Hopkinson, a welcome return to Adam Turner, a close fought battle between Chris Lawrence and Kerry Saville, Luke Davis, Peter Spencer, James Morris, Nick Mould, Matan Duveen and John Shephard. On to our Ladies and Hannah Miller had a stand-out day not only retaining the club championship, but finishing 5th overall in 1:24:27 to knock nearly 5 minutes off her PB. Speaking of big PB’s and possibly the days biggest PB saw Lucy Binch next in 1:37:55, followed by Madi Spencer, a superb run by Julie Holloway as she draws closer to the upcoming Chester Marathon and then another big PB from Claire Allsop with nearly 10 minutes off in 1:49:54. Two more PB’s followed as Charlotte Randell ran 1:51:47 before Nia Arthur cleared 2 hours easily in 1:56:48. An excellent paced run by Rachel Silcock saw her sneak under 2 hours with the ladies team being rounded out by Gillian Shephard and then one more PB as Sarah-Jayne Baines knocked 4 minutes off running 2:33:29
