The Harriers finished with a flourish of Silver medals as the final of the five-part Summer League Road Race Series which finished at the National Water Sport Centre on August 12th. The normally fast and flat course brought a familiar challenge of late as this summers heat wave continued with only a small bit of respite as the Eclipse granted an unusual start to the 7:15 start time! The club has made a brilliant effort to embrace the series this year over 70 different men and women representing the club across the 5 races! The fantastic team work has paid dividends as the men this year came away with a team silver medals for their second place finish from the 38 teams completing the series. On the night our team was lead home by James Lonsdale, followed by Henry Brady, Euan Carroll, Dom Fielding and Ben Rhodes (who also finished 5th individual overall in the series!), who combined with Tom Shaw, Nick Moore, Saimon Kihwele and Matt Daly all scored over the series!

Alongside the team success we also celebrated several individual medals with three age group Silvers for John Harrison (showing that experience for a tactial final race), a late surge in to the medal positions for Cathy Mhembere and fighting to the very last point as Sharon James beat her nearest rival by just a single point over the series to take silver!

Our ladies also enjoyed a late surge in the rankings as they went from strength to strength over the series, moving up the leader board following a win at our home match to finish 4th from the 21 teams, just outside the medal position and something to build on for next year! The series has been superbly supported by the club this year, raced hard and enjoyed by many and finishing with a good social post-race to celebrate another successful team event!
Speaking of socials, if you were down at Clumber Park parkrun this Saturday you would be hard pushed not to noticed the abundance of green and black vests on show as over 40 of ran, walked and jogged, plus plenty more on the marshalling side enjoyed a parkrun gathering, plenty of superb runs and PB’s as well as meeting fellow runners who might parkrun but know less about our local run club. If you’ve ever seen us at parkrun and have questions about getting involved always don’t be shy!

On to the weekend and it was quiet one on the racing front, but we still had a little bit with Tamara Hazlehurst returning to racing and joined by Gabs Bower with two excellent runs.

Finally and not racing but very much top of the game Mark Hazlehurst had a busy week as he leant his skills, volunteering and helping out at the Birmingham European Athletics Champs, including a catch up with an old Worksopian of Jack Buckner!
