On a very hot week, we have had Harriers out enjoying the sun and doing a huge range of events again this week.

Rother Valley Relays took place on Wednesday night. Probably the favourite event of a lot of the club, 40 seniors took part on a fantastic evening of racing this year. Teams of 3 and 4, female, male and mixed, raced with a massive 250 clubs represented on the evening! It gives great opportunity to watch and cheer clubmates, have a picnic, work as a team, and as usual the Harriers finished with their now traditional Mexican wave for one of our runners. Some great PB’s, first senior races for some younger athletes, and more importantly a good night out. Special mention to two teams who walked away with prizes- our over 60’s men, John Harrison, Kev Saville and Steve Battle, took bronze, showing they still have it. And our mixed team of Hannah Miller, Darcie Wasnidge, Henry Brady and Euan Carroll taking silver.

Huge well done to Charlotte Randell this weekend, as she completed the Grim Reaper 40 mile race and came second lady!! A great result and very well deserved.

Our seniors also did some parkrun tourism this week for a social get together, and Bank Holiday Monday saw another social run, and a walk, from the beautiful Welbeck, with drinks and food to finish.

Isaac Beresford and Eliza de Villars from our junior squad both had fantastic weeks, with Isaac winning gold and Eliza silver in the Notts county multi events and are now off to the regionals. Isaac continued his fantastic week at the ISA regional qualifiers for year 8/9 and is now off to the nationals! Great results for two very hard working young athletes.

The very hot and sunny Bank Holiday Track and Field weekend began on Saturday, down in Oxford, where Alicia Wells competed in the Varsity match against Cambridge, at the Iffley Road Stadium (the home of the first sub four-minute mile). Our Heptathlete helped to lead Oxford to victory, excelling in four events. She began by winning the Long Jump with a new pb of 5.38m, followed by another win in the 100m hurdles, clocking 15.9s. Alicia then managed 3rd place in the high jump with a seasons best of 1.60m and completed her busy schedule with a second place in the 200m hurdles in another PB time of 30.6s.  Following the competition Alicia was selected as the Oxford Athletics Team Captain for next year - a wonderful privilege and a high reward for her ability and dedication

On Sunday, the second of the seasons Nottinghamshire County Development League matches saw a mixture of seniors and juniors competing in a wide variety of events at Mansfield. On a perfect day for track and field athletics there were a lot of very good performances with several athletes improving their personal bests. This is the perfect environment for juniors and seniors to compete together and support each other throughout the day, with parents able to compete alongside their children. We also had 4 Harriers officiating, Mark Hazlehurst, Peter Fendley, Caroline McGinley and Nat Cunningham, to help the competition go ahead.

The next County Development League match is at Newark on 12th July. However, before then, we have a Northern League match at Cudworth on 21st June.
