It’s been a busy week, starting last Tuesday with the Pint and Pork Scratching trail race, a 5 mile race, where runners are rewarded with…… yep! Huge well done to Sally and David Bulmer and Bryan Cherry, who thoroughly enjoyed their refreshments and snacks at the end!

Moving onto Saturday where many of our junior athletes competed at Nottinghamshire School, with incredible results. For the girls, Eliza de Villiers took gold in high jump and hurdles, Darcey Crowshaw took double silver home for long jump and shot, Summer Johnson gold in high jump with her first and silver in long jump with a big PB of over 5m, Holly Bulmer ran 1500m with a PB, club standard and silver, Emilia Jonczyk ran 800m and a PB in Javelin despite only just taking it up, and Amelia Read ran 200m and gained bronze in shot. For the boys, not to be outdone, Oscar Wallace took a gold in triple jump and bronze in 800m and Isaac Beresford silver in 800m and hurdles. A fabulous day from these dedicated young athletes.

Next up, the seniors and one budding future junior took on the Southwell Scamper 10k on Sunday, a new trail race in the area and a Harriers GP event. Emma Butcher, Sally Bulmer, Bryan Cherry, Darcie Wasnidge, Matt Daly, David Bulmer and Sam Thorneloe took on the main event. First though, in the children’s race, Rory Daly won second place, ably supported by Holly Bulmer, and did not let his dad forget it when dad Matt ‘only’ took 6th overall in the main race and the trophy for 1st male senior. Rory kindly reminded Matt that his efforts left a lot to be desired in the face of Rory’s result.

Darcie Wasnidge took 2nd female overall with a blistering run, and there were great runs across the board from everyone, so well-done squad!

In a slightly longer event, 8 Harriers took on the Swaledale Marathon on Sunday, a 23 mile, 400ft of vert fell race with some big hills and descents. Always a Harrier favourite, this year Kerry Dickinson, Sally and Jim Staveley, Gill and John Shephard, Cath Mhembre, and James and Sarah Morgan all completed the event, with Kerry winning an award for her 10th completion and James for his 5th. A pub meal at the end topped the day off nicely!
well done to everyone, and here's to another busy week!
