We start this week going right back to Easter Monday, when a number of Harriers took part in the Peak Rail race the train race in Matlock. A great family experience, with supporters being able to ride the train and watch the runners try and beat the train to the finish, it was also a day of success for the Harriers. Henry Brady and Matt Daly took overall 1st and 2nd, and with Chris Lawrence bagged the men’s team prize and beat the train, whilst Hannah Miller won the ladies trophy and beat the train, with Jo Campbell, Tamara Hazlehurst and Rachel Silcock following.

Saturday saw some big miles, with Matan Duveen, David Firth, Julie Gaskell and Alex Edwards taking on the Rasslebock 6 hour event in Sherwood Forest, running as many 6k laps as possible in 6 hours. Matan, returning from injury, hit his goal of 3 laps /18.5km, Dave ran 7 laps totalling 43.2km and the ladies shone, both running 8 laps totalling 49.3km. If that wasn’t enough, Julie ran an extra kilometre to ensure she achieved a personal best distance time of over 50km!

Sunday saw lots of action, with several juniors travelling to Charnwood Open in Louborough for some track and field competition. For the girls, Miley Townrow ran a great 800m on a very windy track, sister Lauren ran an equally great 600m, and Penny North completed a big long jump of 2.26m. For the boys, Hugo McCarthy ran the 600m and got a 75m Personal Best (PB), whilst brothers Freddie North and George North had great results with PB’s for Freddie in 600m and long jump, and PB’s for George in high jump and hurdles, and 3rd place overall in the latter against a much older field. There were some very proud parents and coaches!

At Lincoln 10k, several seniors travelled for the well supported event, with Bryan and Sarah Cherry putting in some good shifts for great times, and some bonus miles for Bry after he missed the baggage truck and got a bonus race back to get his bag afterwards. Nia Arthur, Gabs Bower and Nat Cunningham used the race as a pre-marathon leg stretch, with Gabs coming away with a PB!

Cath Mhembre, one of our incredible veteran ladies, who never fails to put in an outstanding performance, achieved a club silver marathon standard for 55-59 age group at Brighton Marathon with a brilliant 4:07:10. Cath took in the local parkrun and Brighton Mile superhero run en route.

And finally, more big miles and some bigger hills as Kerry Dickinson, and Sam and Kate Thorneloe travelled North for the Charm Bracelet half marathon (Kerry and Kate) and 10k (Sam). Big hills meant big views, with all having a fantastic day out.

That’s a wrap this week, with the next two weeks dominated by marathon season and the return of Mini-League for our juniors; good luck all!
