We start this weeks report with a catch up from the results from last weekends third match at Newark where a group of young Harriers made a small but excellent unit for some great results. Brooklyn Crooks finished 2nd in the HJ and 4th in Javelin with 1.70m and 33.64m. Freddie Marks scored 3rd in the TJ (1.70m) as well as a 1st in HJ and 3rd in 400 m in the B match’s (11.39m and 63.1s). James Lonsdale ran the 200 and 400 m for a 4th and 5th place (27.4s and 58.1s) who was also joined by Ethan Ellery in the 200 m finishing 5th in 26.1s. Joining the athletes were Gwen Hines, Peter Fendley, Caroline McGinley and Michelle Marks acting as Track and Field Officials

We also have news from the previous weeks of the English Schools Championship, which were held at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. Known as the 'kids Olympics', the best young athletes in the country have to qualify for this event.

Brooklyn Crooks finished 8th in the senior boys long jump final, with a pb jump of 6.49m

Alicia Wells finished 19th in the senior girls long jump final a jump of 5.03m

A great achievement for both of our young athletes. Brooklyn (Decathlon) and Alicia (Heptathlon) have also qualified for the the National English Schools multi-events Championships, to be held at Stoke in September.

On to the current week and midweek saw a short and sweet blast in the senior club GP competition as we headed to the Rockingham 5k race, part of the KMR series. Undulating from start to finish it’s got some fast downhills with a couple tough small climbs to break up the fast section. Matt Daly was first Harrier in 4th and 1st V35 followed straight by a chasing Henry Brady in 5th. Top prizes this week goes to Hannah Miller as she took 2nd lady. Full results are still to be published but it was still a great turn out for the green and black on a very warm evening as Paul Parry had another strong run (ready for a 5k PB on Saturday!) with Adam Jonczyk and Dave Bulmer rounding out the men whilst Sam Marriott, Jo Campbell and Cathy Mhembere represented the ladies!

The weekend rounded out with a pair of Harriers heading right up North for the Northumberland Coastal Half Marathon. A very scenic point-to-point from Beadnell down to Alnmouth taking in a real mix of terrains as runners crossed sand, trail, grass and road passing coast lines, beaches and castles it’s even more scenic than it is rewarding. Tom Shaw took 3rd place whilst Tanja Maric smashed her original target to finish 10th in age group.
