Another busy weekend of action as we kick off under the lights at the Donfaster 5k with five laps of the cycle track for some fast racing action as three Harriers saw some excellent performances. Euan Carroll led the team home with a great run in 16:38, with Hannah Miller running 18:04 and Tamara Hazlehurst rounding out the team in 23:02 for three for three on some fast 5k times!
Saturday saw the focus switch to distance though still plenty of fast runs as the Round Rotherham returned with its 50 mile loop, starting from Manvers Waters and looping through Treeton, Rother Valley, skirting Worksop as it passes Woodsetts up to Firbeck and Maltby before loping back via Hooton-Roberts and Mexborough, covering over 3,000 ft over the highly varied 50 miles! This year completing the full 50, five Harriers covered much of the course together helping and supporting each other as Jo Campbell and Kate Thorneloe joined a few veterans of Jim Staveley, Dave Bulmer and most appearances Kerry Dickinson, completing the course in between 12 hours and a little over 13 for an excellent day out.
It wasn’t just mammoth miles though as teams can complete the 50 miles in a relay fashion with 8 stages between 4 and 10 miles each. This year the Harriers had two teams with the ladies represented by Alex Edwards/Julie Gaskell, Cathy Mhembere, Madi Spencer, Gabs Bower, Kirsty Fairburn-Wint, Debbie Lawrence, Nat Cunningham and Darcie Wasnidge) where the ladies narrowly missed out on the prizes in 2nd, whilst the men’s team consisted of Ryan Brown, Richard Bowskill (leap frogging to run both stages 2 and 4!), Chris Bliss, Adam Jonczyk, Matan Duveen, Matt Chappell and Peter Spencer with the boys finishing 3rd. A super team day out with lots of great individual runs on stages and the whole course, great team support getting the runners moved around the stages and post-race social!
Whilst our seniors were out on the trails, our juniors had the first indoor Notts Sportshall of the year…
Finally, there was still time for a bit of a chase to finish off the weekend as following a hiatus, the Osberton Chase returned to the Osberton Horse Trials this weekend, this time in the form of a 5k. A late addition to the calendar but a great show from the green and black with nearly 20 Harriers as the 5k was put on alongside the many equestrian events on from show jumping and eventing to dog shows and event village. A superb run by Isla Bell saw her finish not just 1st lady but 3rd overall followed by reigning Osberton 10k Champ Bryan Cherry, birthday boy Nick Mould and amongst some familiar names Dave Bulmer and Kate Thorneloe forgot they were supposed to be recovering from yesterday and joined in the fun!
