PB’s, trophies and medals galore…..

It was another brilliant weekend of events for the Harriers across the age groups, continuing to show the depth and strength in the club.

Starting on Saturday, the fell loving contingent took on the popular 21.5-mile Grindleford Gallop fell race in the Peak District, covering 2800ft of elevation. Always worth keeping an eye on the social pages for, as entries sell out in about an hour! The sun shone and the cakes, soup and tea at the end made it a great event, with some using it as a marathon training run and others enjoying the morning out. Adam Turner led the Harriers home, followed by newly appointed ladies club captain Sam Robinson with Kirsty Fairbairn-Wint, Nat Cunningham, Jo Campbell and Sam Marriott and James Morgan all following.

Over in Liverpool, Miley Townrow represented Nottinghamshire Schools in the English National XC finals, putting in a storming performance and doing herself proud!

Sunday saw some incredible performances at Retford Half Marathon and Family fun run. Before that though, we need to mention Junior athlete Mason Palmer, who did his first ever race at the junior event at Nice Work’s Sherwood Pines race, and got a bronze medal! Brilliant work Mason!

Retford saw a huge Harrier presence both on and off course. Starting with the fun run, juniors Libby Mould, Holly Bulmer and Oakley Allsop all ran, with Holly and Oakley taking first girl and boy, and Holly just nipping past Oakley on the line for the overall win. The juniors then helped handing out medals, cheering on their senior squad and promoting our half marathon, showing what a credit to the club they are.

We had 18 volunteers at the Billy Button water station, giving up their morning to support the running community. Special mention to Lydia and Edward for handing out much needed sweets and high 5’s, and to brother Ally for helping eat the sweets!

Sally and David Bulmer ran as pacers for the 2:30 finish, perfectly pacing runners over the line despite the wind making carrying huge flags more of a challenge. We also had Harriers along the course supporting, making a massive difference to their clubmates.

22 other seniors ran, with amazing results. Starting with the ladies, Hannah Miller took overall victory, Amy Ogden won the V45 trophy and Julie Holloway had a hugely well-deserved V55 win, surprising herself but not the rest of us!  We also had Darcie Wasnidge (PB and bronze standard), Claire Allsop showing determination and finishing despite injury towards the end, Louise Morris (PB), Natalie Houston, Sharon Challinor (PB) , Jess Monk, having been in an ankle boot not very long ago doing a great run, Lee-Anne Manley, Sarah-Jayne Baines, Sheryl Hibberd (PB),  Vicki Eeles (PB), and Debbie Lawrence for our ladies squad, for a brilliant turn out.

The men had a cracking morning. Henry Brady put in a fine shift for a PB, 12th place in a tough field, and club silver. He was followed by Tom Shaw, training partner Matt Daly, Nick Moore (PB), Ryan Brown (PB), Jake Rice (PB), Nick Mould (PB), Tom Pettit (PB), and Craig Moore (PB).

Finally, well done to our friends at Retford AC for putting on a great event!
