It was home-turf for the mid-way point of the Notts Summer Road Race League and making the home advantage and course knowledge count as we saw some excellent racing and a great turn out of the green and black on Wednesday night. Just shy of 5 miles and an undulating course heading out of Worksop College along the roads or Windmill and Old Coach Lane before turning back for a short bit of off roading through the golf course and around the college to finish back in the grounds, it’s a course with a notoriously fast start and even more notorious bite for those who go out to fast when the road suddenly starts ramping back up.
In the Men’s race it was another high quality team turn-out in the scoring-6 as James Lonsdale led home the men’s team in 7th overall whilst Dom Fielding ran superb to climb right up the finishing order in 13th. A tight finish saw Ben Rhodes finish 23rd followed by Nick Moore and Matt Daly together in 28th and 29th as the Men’s team narrowly missed out on 3rd, finishing 4th overall both on the day and in the series so-far. With one-short of 20 men it was a superb team turn-out to back up a quality team and included so excellent individual performance.
Speaking of excellent performances, we move on to our ladies as Hannah Miller ran a smart race to take an fantastic 2nd place finish, just seconds behind the winning Lady and with a scoring four of Madi Spencer (46th) and two fantastic individual runs by Julie Holloway and Sophie Marriott (62nd and 64th) saw the ladies finish 5th on the night and a season best so far. Another strong team turn out of 16 ladies and numerous of our runners taking the opportunity to make a NRR debut it was a fantastic evening both for racing and taking part.
Barely time to recover from a fast 5 mile road race and numerous Harriers were once again in action and ringing the PB bell as the Newstead Abbey Dash took part on Friday night. With a rapid downhill start heading out to the turn around there aren’t many 5k’s around with the ‘strap-yourself in and hang on’ feeling on this one and hang on well our runners did.
Matt Daly and Henry Brady returned to a now known course to both run PB’s of 17:06 and 17:30 whilst Jack Hutchinson showed hints of fitness coming back in 19:20. Rounding out the men though and one of the biggest PB’s of the night came from Peter Spencer as he ran 22:40.
Speaking of big PB’s and it was our ladies leading the way again as a young Miley Townrow set a big PB in 19:09 whilst Hannah Miller was swiftly behind in 19:17 with Madi Spencer rounding out the ladies team in 22:02
