It was an action packed weekend for Harriers of all ages, starting with North Midlands Cross Country League on Saturday, which saw an opportunity for our Harrier families to race at the same event.

It was a trip down to Wicksteed Park, Kettering for another great afternoon of Harriers racing. Race number 2 and despite some recent downpours the course remained soft but runnable, with an undulating course that was rarely flat. The distance increased as the ages did, on rolling terrain throughout, as the age groups covered between one and three laps, each finishing with a downhill loop back past the starting area and club tents for great support on the finishing sprint!

Getting the racing underway were our U11 girls, with a lap of 2k. Lauren Townrow led the girls team home again, joined by team mates Libby Mould, Isla Arthur and a new addition this week of Lydia Spencer. With the girls finishing, the U11 boys ran the same course, with another great run by George Northwho snuck inside the top-10 to keep himself in the individual medal hunt. There was superb work from all the boys as Oakley Allsop, Hugo McCartney and George North kept the boys in 3rd overall in the team rankings.

Next up in the U15 girls over a large lap 3.5k of the park wasa fantastic performance from Holly Bulmer, picking off places right to the finish line to move up the rankings.

Marking an excellent day for our younger females, Miley Townrow debuted in the league in the U17 Ladies, using the 2 lap 5.3k course intelligently to move through the field pushing right to the finish for an excellent run.

Finally, our Junior contingent saw continued improvement from Harry Cole racing in the U17 Men’s race, this time over 2 larger laps for 6k, besting his performance from match 1.

Next up, our senior ladies covered the same 2 lap 6k with Madi Spencer again leading our ladies home, joined by two debuts and excellent runs from Darcie Wasnidge and Cathy Mhembere followed quickly by Sally Bulmer making to complete our ladies four!

And finally, our men got underway with a 3-lap, 10.4 km course as Tom Shaw, Adam Turner and Adam Jonczyk all continued to move up the rankings (13th, 56th and 131st) before a strong debut run from Tom Pettit, a big performance jump from Neil Allsop, a series debut from Dave Bulmer and Nick Mould completing the men’s team and bring the curtain down on another great Harriers team afternoon.

Match 3 will be at a new venue of Allestree Park, Derby in December.

Sunday saw a mix of road and fell racing, with a seniorssquad heading to Gainsborough and Morton 10k and Half Marathon road races. Gabrielle Bower led the ladies home in the 10k, with Charlotte Randell, Nia Arthur and Rachel Silcock, showing a return to form, following in close succession to each other. For the men, Thomas Petit headed in followed by Trev Symcox and Matan Duveen for some great performances.  In the half marathon, husband and wife team Paul and Sam Marriott had great runs despite a slightly late start by Paul, who then got up to speed to come 18th overall and 2nd in his age category.

Last but definitely not least, Kerry Dickinson and another husband and wife team of Sally and Jim Stavelely headed to the fells for the Leg it Round Lathkill fell race. Covering 7 miles and 950 feet of elevation, the race was held in aid of Children in need, and involved mud, wet feet, slippy stone, but most importantly, flapjack to finish!

Very well done to everyone!
