Weekly Roundup – 9th September

Beautiful weekend weather makes for a beautiful weekend of running with lots of Harriers taking part in events up North, out east and a bit in the middle this week.

First up we had an great wave of green & black as 14 Harriers turned out for our designated Trail race at the Bawtry Forest Trail Race. A scenic run of light undulations across 6.5 miles all on trail. The run has been a popular run for the Harriers over the last few years and this year was no exception aided not only by its scenic course and interesting goodie bag but having designated GP races gives us the opportunity to get a strong gathering as a club, making for a great day out!

Next up, four harriers has a trip to the seaside for the East Coast Classic 10k at Mablethorpe. An out-and-back course along the seafront, with the potential for fast times and this time was no exception as Craig Wolstenholme led the Harriers home in a superb 8th place in 39:32. Kate Thorneloe also ran superb race to achieve a PB of 51:44 (making some excellent progress to achieving some club standards and bling!) and it was double-celebrations as partner Sam also ran a season best of 58:10. Kevin Lee rounded off the Harriers team, finishing in 1:05:45.

Finishing off the report this weeks report was a little half marathon up north called the Great North Run. The worlds most popular half marathon with 57,000 runners from 130 different countries. Four Harriers were lucky enough to get a place in the 2019 race. Bryan Cherry was first home for the Harriers (1:35:39) followed by Charlotte Rushby (1:51:47). An extra chunk of kudos goes to JoAnne Campbell who decided the worlds biggest half would be the best place to complete her first half marathon in an excellent 2:09:12. Completing the Harriers contingent at the GNR was Karen AP finishing in 2:20:08.

Next week we’re back off to the seaside as we should have a fair few Harriers taking part in our GP half marathon at Cleethorpes (Humber Coastal Half) as well as others taking part in the Notts County 10k race at Mansfield, so be sure to come back next week for more exciting news!
