Week 18 Round-up

We start this weeks round up with success at the British University & College Sports Athletics. Emily jumped 1.77m in the Ladies High Jump at the national competition to take the Bronze Medal, just 3 cm shy of her lifetime PB!
On to this week and some great turn outs at a couple of local events. On Wednesday night, the popular KMT series returned with its first race of the year, the Maltby Memorial Run.
A memorable night as 14 Harriers took on a shortened version of the race (reduced to a 5.6 km blast due to condition of the boardwalk towards Slade Hooton). A simple out and back as the course heads downhill from Maltby, around Roche Abbey and back up on the lower path for and undulating 200 ft elevation gain and loss inside the 3 and a bit mile! Thomas Shaw Led the field home in 1st place (20:14), whilst Matt Daly battled through the field on the climb back up to snatch a top-3 finish, with Tom McLaren making it a great showing for WHAC men with three inside the top-10. On the ladies side, Charlotte Jones took 3rd lady for a great value night where £5 got everyone a good evening blast and then plenty of chips with post-race butties! As always, we were as quick to the buffet as we were on the course!
On to Sunday and another local event with ten harriers taking on a very scenic 10km at the Focus on Young People In Bassetlaw Welbeck 10k. A single loop around the private roads of the Estate, it’s a great chance to run in a very scenic location that is rarely open! A beautiful sunny day made for scenic conditions if a little warm! Three Harriers men made up the top-5 with a strong showing with Matt Daly, Henry Brady and Matt Chappell taking 2nd, 3rd and 5th respectively. A great mornings racing with a refreshing post-race tipple to make a great day of it!
This week it’s a double day of action as Tuesday we’re off to the Rother Valley Relays and then no rest as on Wednesday it will be match 2 of the Summer League over at Holme Pierrepoint!
