A WELL respected Worksop referee has passed away, leaving a huge hole in the local game. Keith Goulding, 64, died in Clumber Park yesterday morning, after going for a run.
The Wigan-born official moved to the town at the age of seven, and was known in Bassetlaw for his services to the Worksop Sunday League, Worksop Referees Association and schools football.
For the full story and tributes from his family and friends, see this week’s Worksop Guardian.
Peter whom ran with Keith for many a mile says... ‘I was saddened to hear of Keith’s death, while he was running on a track in
Clumber Park which I know very well. I have spent many happy and exhausting
hours running with Keith, listening to his continuous and jovial chatter, and I
only have very good memories of him. He was a member of the first overseas trip
to Belgium, which I led back in 1989, along with Andy Hardwick, Keith Williams
and Kevin Blades. This trip helped to establish the basis for the many overseas
trips we have all enjoyed over almost 25 years and still enjoy today. During
that trip to Belgium we all ran in the Ploegsteert Half Marathon, which is
centred around the first World War Battlefields, and is always run on 11th
November, Armistice Day. A trip is already booked for Worksop Harriers to take
part in this race again this year, 23 years on. Keith will be missed my many
people, family, friends, athletes and footballers alike.’
