MIDLAND CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS - STAFFORD COMMON

The Worksop Harriers men’s team were in action again at the weekend when they finished 21st in the Midland Cross-Country Championships at Stafford Common.

John Hewitt, the Nott’s over 50’s champion, once again led the Harriers team home over the 3 lap 12km course, finishing 83rd in 47minutes & 48seconds.

Steve Battle was the next runner home for the club, well placed in 134th position (51:06) despite once again losing as shoe in the mud.

“Just like the last time we raced here two years ago!” he said.

“If only he’d learn to lace his shoes up properly!” Added Harriers Team Manager John Harrison.

The rest of the team finished as follows:

John Harrison (187th, 53:21),
Andy Hooley (193rd, 53:33),
Dave Havenhand (234th, 55:59),
Rob Roper (245th, 56:37),
Gary Edwards (341st, 1:11:56).

Tracey West was the only Harrier to compete in the rather hilly Meltham 10km road race near Holmfirth. Strong winds combined with long climbs meant her time was down on what she normally expects, nonetheless she finished in the prizes, collecting third place in 45:08.
