General Info

What are the benefits that Athletics can bring?

Athletics offers a variety of different events for you to try and enjoy. It is a great way to keep fit and stay in shape as well as gaining fun and enjoyment out of the sport. The Club welcomes both those that wish to take part in athletics either competitively or for general fitness.

Who can join Worksop Junior Harriers

Anyone with a passion for athletics! The Club takes members from 8 years of age and upwards, regardless of ability. The Club encourages athletes from a young age, as it is here that essential fundamental skills are gained. However, the Club acknowledges that it is never too late to take up athletics and welcomes all new members.

How do I join the Club?

Anyone interested in joining the Club, can either come to the Club and ask for information at the Club’s Registration Desk on training nights (Wednesday 5.00pm to 6.30pm - Winter North Notts Arena – Summer (from April) St Augustine's School, Kilton) - or contact a member of the Committee or a coach. The Club encourages athletes to try an athletics ‘taster’ session to see if they will enjoy taking part. After that an athlete can join as a First Claim or Second Claim Member.

To become a Member, simply complete an
Application Form and Payment Slip (available at Club Registration Desk or download it from the Club website) and return this with your payment to the Secretary. Being a member allows the athlete to compete for the Club in any national competition (Track & Field, Cross Country, Road, Indoor and Sports hall athletics) either at a reduced rate or free of charge. Shortly after your membership is accepted by the Committee you will receive a Welcome Pack and confirmation of your England Athletics number. Subs of £2.00 are also payable at each training session. This money is used to pay for the facilities, equipment hire and specialist coaches.

What do I need to know and do when I’ve joined the Club?

On joining, Junior Members, parents and guardians, need to :-
Read, sign and return to the Club Secretary or senior coach, an Athlete Parent Code of conduct Form (contained in the Welcome Pack)
Advise the Club of any change in their details (addresses, emergency telephone, medical details etc. as they may occur)

The Welcome Pack contains details of

The Codes of Conduct for Athletes, Parents, Coaches and Club Personnel
Where and when to check-in for training registration?
Where to assemble just prior and after training?
Who their coach / coaches for a training session are?
Who the Club Welfare Officer is and who the deputies are?
Who the Club First-Aid officers are?
What the Club Rules are and what the track and field etiquette is?
This is all aimed at ensuring that the Club can make the environment safe and legal for all its members particularly its junior members.

IMPORTANT  PLEASE TRY TO COMPETE ON TEAM DAYS HIGHLIGHTED IN GREEN

PLEASE NOTE; the system is designed in such a way that it is not a foregone conclusion that the faster runners in the club will win all the prizes. As they say
`You have to be in it to win it’.

The rules may seem quite complex and the point’s allocation may need a mathematics degree to work them out, but a lot of effort has gone into the design of the Worksop Harriers Grand Prix system so that it is fair and easy for club members to submit their results. Its all about getting those green and black vests out there, in numbers, to events throughout the year, and rewarding club members for their efforts.

GRAND PRIX AIM
  1. To ensure that Worksop Harriers Juniors are motivated to turn out, in force, in Team Events (especially in Mini League and cross-country and sports hall events  events)
  2. To encourage Worksop Harriers to turn out and run for the Club. Both as Individuals and as a Team
  3. To reward Athletes who wish to enter races over and above those designated, but not to make those rewards so great that they take undue preference over designated races
  4. To enable all Athletes to run, at a time and place that suits them, and to have points awarded for their efforts.

GRAND PRIX RULES

1.       Club members must be fully paid 1st claim members to compete in the Grand Prix.
2.       Athletes should always compete in a club vest to be awarded Grand Prix points.
