The Worksop Harriers had their most successful ever County Cross-Country Championships coming away from Markeaton Park, Derby, with 7 medals (4 individual & 3 team medals). As the club won two medals at last years championship this represents excellent progress.
The clubs star performers were the under 11boys team of Aidan Needham, David Little & Callum Ward who struck gold, while the under 11girls & under 13 boys teams both won bronze medals.
The individual medal winners were Lucy Harrop (U11g), Aidan Needham (U11b) & John Hewitt (V50) who all won silver medals & James Lonsdale (U13b) who won a bronze medal.
Results Under 11 girls - 1,500m Lucy Harrop (2nd, 4:42), Erin Lonsdale (8th, 5:13), Emma Greaves (11th, 5:18), Masie Durkin (30th, 5:58). 3rd team.
Under 11 boys - 1,500m Aidan Needham (2nd, 4:42), David Little (5th, 4:48), Callum Ward (15th, 5:11), James Nadin (26th, 5:33), Regan Langley (33rd, 5:57), Oliver Oakes (34th, 5:58), James Carratt (37th, 7:29). ‘A’ team 1st, ‘B’ team 8th.
Under 13 girls - 3,000m Bethan Dennis (10th, 15:43), Ellie Wheatley (13th, 15:52), Chloe Hallewell (15th, 16:01), Charlotte Oakes (19th, 16:37). 4th team.
Under 13 boys - 3,000m James Lonsdale (3rd, 13:07), Daniel Little (9th, 13:53), George Earle (19th, 14:52), Josh Charters (22nd, 15:30), Nathan Langley (27th, 18:28). ‘A’ Team 2nd, ‘B’ team 6th.
Under 15 girls - 3,000m Stephanie Oakes (11th, 15.990, Karlie Bell (15th, 18:13).
Under 15 boys 4,6000m Mark Hardwick (4th, 17:41), Thomas Carratt (15th, 24:19).
Senior/Veteran ladies - 7,500m Carol Lonsdale (46th, 43:33), Jo Mclean (47th, 43:33).
Senior/Veteran men - 9,900m John Hewitt (2nd V50, 40:24), Rob Roper (79th 42:08), David Havenhand (90th, 44:10), Tony Jenks (91st, 44:16), Sean Dexter (100th, 45:57), Malcolm Briggs (114th, 49:15). 6th veteran team.
Following this excellent performance James Lonsdale & Mark Hardwick were selected to represent Nottinghamshire in the Inter Counties Cross-Country Championships & Daniel Little was chosen as first reserve. (There is no Inter Country competition for under 11’s)
The final meeting in the Notts Mini League Sportshall competition is this Sunday (15th) at the Groove Leisure Centre, Newark. The Harriers are currently leading the league & one more good turnout should see them crowned League winners for the first ever time.
