Worksop Half Marathon & Fun Run - A Big Thankyou.....
Worksop Half Marathon & Fun Run - A Big Thankyou.....
Posted on Sunday, 02 November 2008 05:32PM by
On behalf of Worksop Harriers, I thank everyone who contributed to the success of this year’s Worksop Half Marathon.
The extremely positive comments, on the Runner’s World website, are a great source of encouragement to the organising committee and our large band of volunteers, without whom it would not be possible to promote such a large event.
Set in the spectacular autumn woodlands of Clumber Park, this race now ranks amongst the most scenic and well organised in the County according to those voting on Runner’s World, with over 1,300 runners competing in this year’s event and a further 200 runners taking part in the Fun Run.
I thank all the runners who continue to support our event, in such large numbers, and all of the members, friends and families of Worksop Harriers who perform all the various tasks leading up to the race and on race day itself. I am very grateful that the Highways Authority allow the roads to be closed and to the Police, Fire Brigade, St John’s Ambulance and Bassetlaw District Council workers who all provide a tremendous service on the day, to ensure that the athletes are able to perform to the best of their abilities and live their dreams.
Last year we successfully established a link with the Registered Charity, Cerebral Palsy (CP Sport), which enabled them to raise in excess of £2,600 as a result of our event. This year we have continued our link with CP Sport and it is hoped that they will have, once again, benefited greatly from the event through Sponsorships, Donations and a street collection on the day.
This year Dave and Julie’s ‘Tea and Cake’ stall did exceptionally well, raising £517.76 for P.A.C.T. at Sheffield Children’s Hospital – Oncology Department. They both wish to thank everyone who contributed to the baking of the cakes and to those who bought them.
I hope that the volunteers, as well as the runners, enjoyed this year’s experience and that you will continue to give your support in future years, perhaps even adding a friend, or two, to our much needed band of helpers, and that the runners will encourage their club mates and colleagues to take part next year.
And finally, I thank our sponsors, because without their contribution the event would not be possible:
Ezra Sugden (Renault), SheRunsHeRuns, Asics, Nottinghamshire County Council, Bassetlaw District Council, Eve Trakway, Wilkinsons, Northern Rail, Apple Health and Fitness and Worksop College.
Thank you ALL for making this year’s race a very enjoyable experience for many people.
Peter Fendley
Race Director and Chairman of Worksop Harriers
