The junior Harriers got the cross-country season off to a good start in the first race of the Notts AAA Mini League at Kings Park Retford where the wet & muddy conditions made it a real test for the young athletes.

Chloe Hallewell (3rd, 4:16) was the clubs outstanding performer of the day in the under 11 girls 1,000m race. She was very well supported for the Harriers by:
Lauren Ward (5th, 4:28),
Catrina Dycka (10th, 4:44),
Miranda Parks (13th, 4:50),
Katie Wagstaff (20th, 5:46).
This fine performance by the under 11 girls team meant they finished an excellent 2nd, just 1 point behind their age group winners - Notts AC

Jack Sanders (8th, 6:44) was the clubs first runner home in the under 11 boys 1,500m competition, leading the team to 4th place. He was followed by:
Daniel Appleby (10th, 7:00),
Michael Packer (20th, 7:40).

While Bethany Scotney (14th, 9:22) ran in the under 13 girls 2,000m race, supported by:
Anna Hall (22nd, 10:04),
Bethany Platford (27th, 11:16),
Sophie Bonser (31st, 13:02).
With the team finishing in 7th place.

Jack Harrop (20th, 12:12) led the team home to 6th place in the under 13 boys 3,000m event, followed by:
Ben Twible (22nd, 12:45),
James Fleeman (23rd, 13:53).

And Emily Appleby (6th, 11:37) ran an encouraging race in the under 15 girls 3.000m race to bring the team home in 2nd place. She was followed by:
April Ward (14th, 13:11),
Stacie Leather (15th, 13:12).

All this meant that when all the scores were totted up the Harriers finished in 4th place overall.

It promises to be a busy time ahead for the youngsters with a Sports Hall competition at Newark this Sunday (19th Oct) followed by the Trader Fun Run on the 26th October. Then comes another Sports Hall meeting on the 9th Nov & the second meeting in the Mini League Cross-Country on the 16th November.
