The Worksop Harriers enjoyed another successful weekend competing in the Mablethorpe Festival of Running. Now in it’s third year the event continues to improve & attract more runners.

John Hewitt (8th overall, 1:20:02) won the over 50’s category in the half marathon, an excellent performance which also saw beat all the runners in the over 40’s age group as well.

While Tracey West, the winner of the 10km race for the past 2 years continued her recovery from long-term injury to finish second this time. Though a little disappointed not to record a hat trick of victories her time of 42:22 was good enough to see her lead the rest of the Harriers over the line.
She was followed home by:
John Harrison (26th, 42:57),
Julie Bonser (80th, 49:48),
Bryan Bonser (95th, 51:53),
David Ward (103rd, 52:56),
Helen Eastland (131st, 57:12),
Charlotte Hewitt (133rd, 57:27).

Jimmy Kelly (101st, 1:47:52) continued his preparations for the forthcoming Berlin Marathon by completing the half marathon.

All the finishers received their medals from an Olympian who competed with the British men’s hockey team in Beijing.

The Harriers Philip Harrop (89th, 3:18:46) was the clubs only member to tackle the gruelling Totley Exterminator fell race. Fortunately this appropriately named 16mile category 1 race, which involves 4,050ft of ascent, was blessed with fine weather conditions.

The Harriers also competed in the Mansfield 5km race where John Hewitt (22nd, 18:20) was the first member home.
He was followed by:
Philip Harrop (43rd, 20:18),
John Harrison (44th, 20:20),
Jimmy Kelly (81st, 23:34),
Caroline McGinley (82nd, 23:56),
Julie Bonser (90th, 24:23),
Charlotte Hewitt (92nd, 24:26).

The National Trust’s Clumber Park 10km race takes place at 10am this Sunday (28th). This year they will be using the latest ‘chip timing’ technology. Entries will be taken on the day, but runners are warned to allow plenty of time, as this is a very popular event. There is a race limit of 1,000 entries.
