Steve Battle, Worksop Harriers ultra runner completed his greatest ever challenge when he finished the 1150km, 18 day Transe Gaule race. The endurance event starts at Roscoff on the English Channel and after averaging over 40miles a day finishes at Gruissan-Plage on the Mediterranean.
The race attracted its best ever field of entrants, with 52 of the worlds top ultra runners, from 13 countries taking part and in finishing Steve became only the 4th Englishman to complete this gruelling event.
Despite suffering shin splints and a swollen ankle Steve grew stronger making good progress over the last 8 days moving up the leader-board to finish a respectable 28th place in 149hours 20minutes & 45seconds.
Steve was undeterred by the all hardships and afterwards said his dream was one day to complete the 64day, Transe Europe, from the southern tip of Italy to the top of Norway in the Artic Circle!
