Big -hearted Lauren Ward’s dreams came true when she finished first girl home in the Hallamshire Neuro Care 3m fun run at Anston.

Just 18 months ago this brave youngster was fighting for her life after suffering a rare brain condition.  She underwent five operations – four on her head, in six weeks, at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

Last year she made a remarkable recovery that stunned doctors and amazed her family. Within 6 months of leaving hospital after her life threatening condition she was back running for the Harriers & finished second in last years race.

Her Mum, Helen Eastland said:

“ The race is a fund raiser for Hallamshire Hospital’s Neuro Care Fund, which is obviously close to our hearts. Ever since last year she has been determined to go one better & win this years race. She also wanted to raise valuable sponsorship money for them to help other youngsters”

Lauren’s determination and fighting spirit were once again in evidence during the race when she was sent the wrong way and had to make up considerable ground to achieve her ambition of finishing first.

Ben Tiwble, a team mate in the Harriers also excelled finishing 3rd boy in the race.
