3 Peaks Challenge Update
3 Peaks Challenge Update
Posted on Thursday, 10 July 2008 09:10PM by
With only two more training weekends to go, I thought I would give you an update to our progress, and a bit of an insight into our pysical state of wellbeing (or not).
Sean must be getting in lots of secret training (good candidate for the Dark Horse Trophy, if only he was a member of the Harriers) as his ability to ascend the hills in Derbyshire like a mountain goat is astounding. He has however got a niggling `twinge' in his left calf muscle that gets worse when he bursts into a run. My simple advise to him was `Just walk then !`
My training consists of the weekend walks Sean and I have completed over the past 5 weeks. the most intresting of which was the Kinder Downfall route that we did. The Nab being our early challenge that involved climbing this hill using feet and hands in strong cross winds. The route to the edge of Kinder was relatively easy with a test of my map and compass skills to get us across the palteau to kinder downfall and then Kinder Low. Along the we way we rescued a Ram that had managed to get itslef stuck between two boulders. Whilst I grabbed its Horns, Sean grabbed its fleece, it took considerable leverage to get him out, but he seemed more than happy for the help (bleet bleet).
I have been undergoing sports massage therapy from the guys at Apple Therapy in Worksop to assist with my now long standing back problems. They have helped keep the muscles surrounding the problem area supple, flexible. thanks to Lee and Jackie for their heeling hands
(look out on this website for future offers for club memebers from Apple Fitness & Therapy).
This weekend will see Sean and I getting up at 3am on saturday morning to take on the classic Cave Dale, Mam Tor Lose Hill, Win Hill route. Should get back just in time for breakfast !!
We are staying in a Bunk Barn on Friday evening before the event in Horton in Ribblesdale, and as Sean is used to his home comforts and likes as a minimum 8 hours sleep a night, I am not sure how much he will enjoy the experience. However it beats getting up at 3 am (again) to drive to the start for a 6.30 mass start. (Over 400 competitors have registered so far, and they are still accepting entries).
just a reminder, we are doing this event for a very worthy cause and would greatly appreciate any sponsorship donation, just click on the just giving logo above to donate to the British Heart Foundation online......
I will post a `post event' report & pictures here soon after the challenge.
