The junior Worksop Harriers got the track & field season of to an good start with some excellent performances in the first meeting of the year at the Notts ‘Spring Spruce’ open meeting at the Harvey Haddon Stadium, Nottingham.
Raising star Paige Daughtry won the long jump (2.62m), came 3rd in the 80 meters (12.9) & 5th in the 150 meters (24:4) in the under 11’s girls events.
Not to be out shone Daniel Appleby came first in the 600 meters (2:03) & 9th in the 80 meters (13:3) in the under 11 boys races.
The club had two competitors in the under 13 boys category. The irrepressible Ben Twible won the shot (5.2m), came 3rd in both the 100 meters (14:8) & the long jump (3.75m) & 4th in the 800 meters (2:51). Jack Harrop recorded a personal best to finish 3rd in the 800 meters (2:44).
In the under 15’s girls events Emily Appleby finished 3rd in the 800 meters (2:43) & 6th in the long jump (4.25m). Teammate Jodie Solaiman was 4th in the 100 meters (13:9) & 8th in the 75 meters hurdles (15:6).
Juniors Coach Michele Harrop said: “All the youngster did brilliantly, it is just a shame we don’t have the facilities to match their talent!” The Harriers 59th Annual General Meeting is next Wednesday (30th) 7.30pm at Manton Athletic Club, Retford Road. All members are urged to attend, a buffet will be provided.
