Train driver Steve Battle was picked to represent England in the Rail-Sport cross-country race in Kapellen, Belgium. He ran an excellent race to finish 12th (21mins 8sec) & has now been selected as part of an eight man team to run for Great Britain in the Rail-Sport European Championships held in Ceska Trebova, in Czechoslovakia at the end of April. He has already run in Germany this year when he visited Worksop’s twin town, Garbsen with the Harriers, but his exploits don’t stop there. It’s a case of ‘have running shoes – will travel’ for Steve who has also gained a place on the 18day, 1154km (721mile) ‘Transe Gaule’ race across France.
The race takes place in August & runs diagonally across France from Roscoff in the northwest to Gussan-Plage in the southeast.
Steve is an experienced ‘Ultra Runner’ who has previously covered 119miles in 24 hours, so he hopes running an average of 40miles a day, for 18 days will be within his abilities.
